Biography
David Caponi is an experienced engineering and business development leader with over 20 years’ experience across the automotive, energy and industrial sectors.
Combining deep technical expertise in diesel engine design with a strong commercial focus, he has held senior roles including Chief Engineer, Design Manager and Chairman across leading international organisations.
He began his career following a top‑honours degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Pisa, progressing through key positions at Piaggio, General Electric, VM Motori and Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT).
During this time, he led major engine development programmes, including roles as NEF Engine Chief Engineer, Diesel Design Manager, and Heavy Duty Testing Manager.
David later moved into senior leadership and business development, specialising in strategic partnerships, customer engagement and commercial growth. His approach combines technical insight with a strong focus on delivering practical, results‑driven solutions.
Today, David is actively involved in the advancement of green mobility and hydrogen technologies, supporting the development of next‑generation powertrain solutions. He currently serves as Chairman of Metier Technologies Europe and advises organisations internationally on engineering strategy, innovation and market development.
