Metier Repower

Metier Hydrogen repowered Truck-in-ULEZ-no-phone-number-and-available-2026

Metier Repower converts trucks, buses and other medium-heavy duty vehicles into zero‑emission* hydrogen vehicles, delivering fleet decarbonisation without the cost, complexity or downtime of full vehicle replacement.

Our hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) technology offers a direct, lower‑risk route to net‑zero, purpose‑built for fleets with high‑utilisation, return‑to‑base operations.

*as defined by Euro 7 (EU 2024/1257)

Why Hydrogen Repowering?

Most fleets face long lead times, infrastructure challenges, and high acquisition costs when transitioning to BEVs or FCEVs. Metier Repower offers a third path:

✔ Zero CO₂ emissions & near‑zero NOx
  • Compliant with Euro VI and Euro VII standards.
✔ Total cost of ownership comparable with diesel
  • Achievable by 2028 without vehicle subsidy.
✔ Same payload, performance and durability as diesel
  • No compromise on GVW, axle weight or operational capability.
✔ Fast refuelling
  • Hydrogen fill times comparable with diesel, keeping vehicles on the road.
✔ Any body type, any duty cycle
  • Suitable for food distribution, waste management, haulage, construction, municipal services and more.

Why Hydrogen ICE? — and Why Now?

Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H₂ICE) technology combines the familiarity and robustness of conventional engines with the environmental benefits of hydrogen fuel.

Four trends are aligning simultaneously:

Proven Technology

H₂ICE engines are mechanically similar to diesel and CNG engines, enabling:- Established supply chains- Existing service and maintenance networks- Known durability and lifecycle behaviour

Falling Green Hydrogen Costs

The UK’s growing renewable energy surplus is creating favourable conditions for:- Low‑cost green hydrogen production- Localised supply models- Improved fuel price certainty over time

A Tightening Regulatory Clock

- Stricter NRMM and emissions regulations- Urban low‑emission and zero‑emission zones- National commitments to particulate reduction

A Closing First-Mover Window

Large OEMs are beginning to develop H₂ICE products — slowly. The opportunity exists now for agile, focused deployment at commercial scale.

How Repowering Works

The Repower Process:

  1. Remove existing diesel engine and fuel system
  2. Install brand‑new H2 fuel system
  3. Fit new H2ICE engine to existing gearbox
  4. Install matched exhaust, electronics and ancillaries
  5. Run production‑line checks and full certification
  6. Return the vehicle to the fleet

Total downtime: 4 weeks

Fleet disruption: Minimal

Performance & Range

Our H2ICE Repower Delivers:

  • 180–230 hp
  • 6.3 miles/kg hydrogen fuel economy (~12 mpg diesel equivalent)
  • Up to 250 miles range with 350 bar tanks (longer with 700-bar or behind‑cab options)
  • Up to 75 tonnes CO₂ saved per truck per year

Configured using standard 4×2 rigid chassis formats across DAF LF, Iveco EuroCargo, Dennis and comparable platforms.

Ideal Applications

Repowering is optimised for:

  • High‑utilisation, return‑to‑base fleets
  • Routes with predictable duty cycles
  • Urban and regional operations
  • Sectors requiring heavy payloads and long uptime
Example sectors:
  • Food distribution
  • Haulage & freight
  • Construction & utilities
  • Waste & recycling
  • Municipal services
  • Roadside recovery
  • Refrigerated transport

Built for Fleet Operators

Metier’s repower model integrates with localised hydrogen ecosystem partners in the UK and EU, enabling:

  • Depot‑based hydrogen refuelling
  • Lower CapEx entry into zero‑emission operations
  • Scalable regional fleet deployments
  • Data‑driven TCO insight from on‑board diagnostics
  • Rapid demonstration fleets to accelerate customer adoption

Our partners include leasing providers, hydrogen infrastructure players and technical testing bodies such as VCA and MIRA.

2026 Launch & Demonstration Program

We are preparing for:

  • Prototype customer and media test drives
  • On‑road trials with selected fleets
  • Real‑world duty cycle data capture
  • Expressions of Interest from major operators
  • Investor engagement for scale‑up and deployment
  • Fleet deployment available to customers from 2027
