James Budgett

James brings over 35 years of senior leadership experience across UK and international business.
 
A co‑founder of Metier Technologies, he has guided the company through major strategic milestones, including its sale to Rheinmetall and later reacquisition through Metier Ventures.
 
With a background as a British Army Captain and a long career in board‑level roles, James now leads Metier’s focus on advancing green, future‑focused powertrain technologies — particularly innovations for hydrogen internal combustion engines.

Biography

With more than 35 years of board‑level and senior leadership experience across UK and international markets, James brings deep commercial insight and strategic direction to Metier Technologies.
Educated at Eton College, James began his career in the British Army, where he served as an officer and left with the rank of Captain. In 1984, he co‑founded Metier Technologies and has since held a range of executive and non‑executive roles within the business.
In 2012, James returned as Chairman to oversee the company’s sale to Rheinmetall, guiding a successful transition into a Tier 1 environment.
As co‑founder of Metier Ventures, he later led the acquisition of Metier Technologies back from Rheinmetall in November 2022. His focus today is on steering the company’s technical capability toward green, future‑focused solutions — particularly innovations that support the growing potential of hydrogen internal combustion engines.
